Deputy Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Wamendikdasmen) reaffirms the government’s commitment to providing quality education for all students in Indonesia. During his working visit to Riau, Prof. Atip Latipulhayat emphasized the importance of education that not only offers access but also equips students with the skills needed in the modern era, such as science, technology, and mathematics.

One of the government’s main focuses is the implementation of deep learning. This learning method emphasizes three crucial aspects: mindful learning (learning with awareness), meaningful learning (learning that is meaningful), and joyful learning (learning that is enjoyable). With deep learning, it is hoped that students can actively engage in the learning process and gain a deeper understanding.

Furthermore, the government is also pushing for increased literacy and mastery of science and technology. These skills are considered essential to tackle challenges in the digital era. To support this, the government has integrated coding and artificial intelligence (AI) learning into the education curriculum.

The government acknowledges that teachers play a vital role in the learning process. Therefore, efforts to enhance teacher competency are ongoing. Through various training and professional development programs, it is hoped that teachers can implement more innovative and enjoyable teaching methods.

This policy is expected to bring significant changes in the Indonesian education sector, including changes in teaching methods, where teachers will use more active learning methods involving direct student participation, such as group discussions, projects, and problem-based learning. There will also be an emphasis on improving the quality of teachers in designing effective and engaging learning experiences. Education methods will continue to be updated to accommodate technological advancements and the needs of the job market, ultimately producing quality human resources capable of competing globally.

Despite the government’s strong commitment to improving the quality of education, there are still challenges that need to be addressed. Some of these include the disparity in educational quality between urban and rural areas, inadequate educational facilities, and a shortage of educators in remote areas.

In conclusion, the government’s efforts to enhance education in Indonesia are commendable, but there is still work to be done to overcome existing challenges and ensure that all students have access to quality education.
